Clock Tower
Throughout its three centuries of existence, the Ohrid clock tower has been typing the times and the fates of many generations of Ohrid.
It was built in 1726, by Cavush Dere Suleiman-aga, located at the foot of the eastern part of the Samoil Fortress, in the town of Deboj.
Chavush Dere Suleimanaga donated the clock to the city but we do not know its purpose. You see, there are also four rifles. Because of this, it is not known whether it was originally built as a defensive tower for enemies, who were outside the city walls of Varos, or as a clock that in a certain time called the Muslim citizens to pray.

Ruins
The last research of the St. Sophia church shows that it was built on the remains of an old basilica, underneath the present level.
In Byzantne architecture there are three basic types of churches: the basilica, the tetraconch and the cross shaped. They may developed in articulated forms, with a predilection for the Greek cross shape with a central dome, frequently enclosed into a square (cross-in-square).
The Ancient Theatre in Ohrid dates back to this period, just as the basilicas near Imaret and Deboi. The remains bear testimony of an old, well-organized settlement.

Saint Sophia
In 1395, Ohrid falls under the Ottoman Rule. In this period, several medieval churches were turned into mosques, as the cathedral church St. Sophia. Other religious buildings were destroyed.

In 479 CE, the Gothic king Theodoric failed to conquer Lihnidos (old Ohrid’s name) because “the city was firmly surrounded by fortress, full of water and food”. Dzeladin-bey Saray
Dzeladin-bey was the governor of Ohrid kaza at the beginning of 19th century. In the central part of the fortress, some new palaces were built. After this ruling period was tragically over, all these objects were burnt down to the ground…

Very extensive systematic archaeological explorations were carried out in the area of the citadel and six water cisterns were discovered, numerous remains of buildings dating from the Macedonian-Hellenic period, late antiquity and early medieval period, and remains of Dzeladin-bey's Sarai in the southern half.

Patchev House
This house is built in 1800. It is the birthplace of the revolutionary Methodi Patchev.
The historic architecture of Ohrid owes its fame to the many 18th and 19th century buildings, built in the typical oriental/Ottoman style. Although other examples may be found in Macedonia and other copuntries, Ohrid is an important testimony of how this famous architectural style developed into an original and local feature.

Tsitadela
The largest part of the fortress was built during the reign of Tsar Samuil from 976-1014 when Ohrid was the capital of the empire. Most recently, Dzeladin Bey, an Ottoman outlaw who ruled the city as a feudal lord, used the fortress for defense and built his palace there in 1808.
