Holy Mother of God Peribleptos
Built in 13th century, the church of Holy Mother of God Peribleptos is considered one of the monuments of high leveled degree of protection. The church’s fresco paintings are rich of themes with hidden iconographic meanings.
The specific solution of the inner space of the building and the characteristic opus of building with rich ceramoplastic decoration, help recognize the church of Holy mother of God Peribleptos to be counted among the rarely preserved Byzantine monuments from the second half of XIII century, more precisely 1295.

Load Bearing Structure
The highest degree of pathology we could say that is observed at the bearing walls that load all the buildings weight.
Therefore, a lot of restoration works have been taken place at the building.
There are photos that indicate older restoration activities in the effort to protect the church and kept as it is.

Ceiling and Wooden beams
The ceiling stills at sufficient level of low pathology. The wooden beaming that protects the initial ceilings as an extension, seems to have shielded the outer part of the church to exposure to rain and other pollutants.

The photos indicate a very well-preserved interior as well. The central wooden doors and the wooden and iron made windows are in good condition, barely any pathology at all.

Cultural and artistic heritage
In this church, the painters left their signatures (10) for the first time and did not remain anonymous. The frescopainting in this church is the first authentic painting work of the painters Mihajlo and Evtihie. It is the oldest wholesome of the so-called Renaissance of the Paleologists, the last big chapter of Byzantine art. The early work of Mihajlo and Evtihie in Ohrid, is decisively focused to the future and representative of the protopaleologic art.
They are an introduction to the wall painting in the new artistic era.

Preventive care
Frescoes that have been transferred to cultural institutions are more able to remain in a stable environment that is consistently monitored. So, they are at low risk.
For the frescoes that still at their place of origin, such as this church, those are at high risk. Contrary to those at the labs, they are vulnerable to environmental elements like high tourist traffic and with other pollutants.

Dome
With its basic geometrical form, the dome represents a spherical ending in the shape of a semi-circle. It consists of three basic architectural elements: calotte, drum and pendentive.
Calotte is the ending (top) of the cupola is in the shape of sphere/ circle. In case the dome is not visible from outside it is called a blind cupola.
Drum is a part of the dome in a shape of a cylinder, serving as a clerestory to the interior of a building. It may have a circular or polygonal form.
Pendentives are spheric triangles that represent the construction element at the basis of the dome where the square bay formed by four supporting elements turns into a circle. They are an autochthonous Byzantium architectural element.
